أبو الطاهر إسماعيل بن علي بن يوسف الحميري المهدوي الكاتب المنعوت بالسراج، بقرافة مصر، ودفن بها. وكان قدم مصر واشتغل بها، ولقي بها أبا الخير سلامة بن عبد الباقي النحوي، والشريف النسابة محمد بن أسعد الجواني، ورحل إلى بغداد وسمع بها وكتب [بها] على ابن البرقطي مدة، وحدث بها بأناشيد، كتب بها عنه الحافظ أبو عبد الله محمد بن سعيد ابن الدبيثي، وعاد إلى مصر، وانقطع بالقرافة إلى حين وفاته، وكان له ميل إلى الوحدة والانقطاع. كتبت عنه شيئا من شعره وشعر غيره، وكان فاضلا، وكتب خطا حسنا.٢٨٤٠ - وفي ليلة الخامس والعشرين من ذي القعدة توفي الشريف الأجل
