أبو الفضل جعفر بن محمود بن علي الشافعي المؤذن العدل، بدمشق، ودفن من يومه وكنت إذ ذاك بها وحضرت دفنه. كتبت عنه أناشيد، وسمعته يقول: ولدت يوم الثلاثاء النصف من رجب سنة ست وستين وخمس مئة بالقاهرة. وكان شهد عند قاضي القضاة أبي المكارم محمد بن عين الدولة، وولي التأذين للسلطان الملك الكامل مدة حضرا وسفرا، وولي الحسبة بالعسكر المنصور مدة.٢٥٨١ - وفي الثامن عشر من شهر ربيع الآخر توفي الشيخ
