أبو عبد الله، ويقال: أبو بكر، محمد بن المهنا بن محمد البناني البغدادي الأزجي الشاعر، ودفن من الغد. ومولده في السابع عشر من المحرم سنة تسع وخمس مئة. مدح جماعة من الخلفاء، والوزراء، والكبار. وحدث بشيء من شعره. وهو أحد الشعراء المشهورين. ومهنا: بضم الميم وبعد الهاء المفتوحة نون. ونسبته بالبناني إلى امرأة يقال لها بنانة. وفي الرواة: بناني: منسوب إلى القبيلة المشهورة. وبناني: منسوب إلى ولائهم. وبناني: منسوب إلى سكة بنانة محلة بالبصرة سميت بذلك لنزول هذه القبيلة بها. وبناني: منسوب إلى ناحية بنان من نواحي مرو.٨٢٦ - وفي الخامس من شوال توفي الشيخ
