خليل بن محمد بن سليمان الشيخ الإمام العدل جمال الدين السملوطي - بالسين المهملة، وبعدها ميم ولام مشددة وواو وطاء مهملة - الشافعي النحوي. أقرأ النحو بمصر مدة، وكابد في تعليم الطلبة شدة، وكان عدلاً مقبولاً، ولم يكن بالرياسة متبولاً. ولم يزل على حاله إلى أن راح إلى من دعاه، وقام به الصارخ ونعاه. وتوفي رحمه الله تعالى في شوال سنة اثنتين وعشرين وسبع مئة، وقد بلغ السبعين، ودفن بباب النصر خارج القاهرة.
