أحمد بن علي بن الزبير ابن سليمان بن مظفر: القاضي الفقيه شمس الدين أبو العباس الجيلي أبُوه، الدمشقي الشافعي الشاهد من صوفة الطواويس. سمع مجلدين من " سنن البيهقي " من ابن الصلاح. وروى عنه سائر من طلب ورحل الناس إليه حتى من حلب. وكان ديّناً منطبعاً، نازلاً بأكناف التلاوة متربعاً، حسن المنادمة حتى حص الإقلاق خوافيه وقوادمه، ولم يزل على ذلك إلى أن غُصَّ بالحِمام وما وفي له الأمل بالذمام.وتوفي رحمه تعالى سنة أربع وعشرين وسبع مئة. ومولده سنة خمس وثلاثين وست مئة.
