إبراهيم بن علي بن أحمد بن حمزة بن علي الشيخ المسند جمال الدين ابن الجنوبي - نسبة إلى الجنوب - التغلبي الدمشقي. كان من بيت عدالة ورواية، وكلف بالحديث وعني به، وكان مع ذلك فراشاً معتبراً في هذه الحرفة، والصناعة الصرفة، وسكن مصر وروى بها، ومشى في طرق الرواية وروى بها، وأسمع بدمشق أيضاً، فسمع منه الذهبي ومن عداه، ولبوا نداءه وأجابوا صداه.وكان يروي عن ابن اللتي، وبالإجازة عن محمود بن منده ومحمد بن عبد الواحد المديني. ولم يزل على حاله إلى أن ضربت خيمة كفنه، ولم يغن عنه صحة رأيه ولا أفنه. وتوفي رحمه الله تعالى سنة ثمان وسبع مئة.
