    حريث بن محفض المازني ? - ٦٥ هـ / ? - ٦٨٥ م حريث بن سلمة بن مرارة بن محفض الخزاعي المازني التميمي. شاعر أدرك الجاهلية وعاش في الإسلام، كان ينزل بالشام، واشتهر بخبره مع الحجاج بن يوسف الثقفي: كان الحجاج يخطب على المنبر بدمشق، فقال: أنتم يا أهل الشام كما قال حريث بن محفض: ألم تر قومي إن دُعوا لملمة أجابوا وإن أغضب على القوم يغضبوا بنو الحرب لم تقعد بهم أمهاتهم وآباؤهم آباء صدق فأنجبوا فإن يك طعن بالردينيّ يطعنوا وإن يك ضرب بالمناصل يضربوا وكان حريث بين الجمع، فقال: أنا والله حريث! فقال الحجاج: ما حملك على أن سابقتني؟ قال: لم أتمالك إذ تمثل الأمير بشعري فأعلمته مكاني.
