[٣٩٠] عَقيل بن أبي طالب بن عبد المطلب ابن عم النبي ﷺ، يُكْنَى أبا يزيد، وقيل: أبا عيسى (¬١). شَهِد بدرًا مع المشركين مُكرَهًا، وأُسر يوم بدر، ثم أسلم قبل الحديبية، وشهد غزوة مؤتة، وكان أسنّ من جعفر بعشر سنين، وطالب أسنّ منه بعشر سنين، وكان جعفر أسنّ من علي بعشر سنين، وكان من أنسب قريش وأعلمهم بأيامها. قال ابن سعد: قالوا: مات بعدما عمي في خلافة معاوية. روى عنه: الحسن بن أبي الحسن، وابنه محمد، وابن ابنه عبد الله، وموسى بن طلحة، وغيرهم. روى له: النَّسائي، وابن ماجه.
