٣٩٩٩ - (م د س) علي بن عبد الرحمن، المعاوي، الأنصاري، الأوسي، المدني (¬٢) قال المزي: وهو من بني معاوية بن مالك بن عوف بن عمرو بن عوف من الأوس. كذا ذكره تبعًا لصاحب "الكمال" موهمًا -ناظر كتابه- أن بين عوف والأوس آباء كثيرة، وليس كذلك فإن عوفًا، ابن الأوس نفسه؛ فكان ينبغي أن يقول: عوف بن الأوس بدلا من الأوس؛ فيعتقد الناظر، أن ثم آباء أخر متعددة، واللَّه أعلم. وذكره ابن سعد في الطبقة الثالثة من أهل المدينة، ومسلم في الأولى، وذكره ابن خلفون في كتاب "الثقات".
