    رجل من بني نوفل وفد على يزيد بن عبد الملك قرأت في كتاب أبي الفرج علي بن الحسين (٧) حدثني أحمد بن عمار حدثني علي بن محمد النوفلي حدثني عمي عن أبيه عن جده قال خرجنا إلى يزيد بن عبد الملك في شئ من أمورنا فألفيناه عليلا علته التي مات فيها فكنا نبعث رسولا يأتينا كل يوم بخبره فجاءنا فقال هو اليوم يثقل (٨) وما أراه يصبح فغدونا إليه والناس مجتمعون وسمعنا في الدار همهمة ثم راحت فما شعرنا إلا سلامة قد خرجت إلى الباب تنوح بهذا الشعر * لا تلمنا إن خشعنا * أو هممنا بخشوع * وا أمير المؤمنينا فعلمناه بوفاته ٩٢٠١ -
