أعرابي وفد على عبد الملك بن مروان فسلم عليه، ثم قال: مرت بنا سنون ثلاثة: أما إحداها فأكلت المواشي، وأما الثانية فأنضلت اللحم، وأما الثالثة فخلصت إلى العظم، وعندك مال، فإن يكن لله فأعط عباد الله، وإن يكن لك فتصدق علينا، إن الله يجزي المتصدقين. قال: فأعطاه عشرة آلاف درهم، ثم قال: لو كان الناس يحسنون أن يسألوا هكذا ما حرمنا أحداً.
