    محمود لم ينسب لنا (١) حكى عن سفيان الثوري روى عنه سهل بن عاصم أنبأنا أبو علي الحداد (٢) أنا أبو نعيم الحافظ نا عبد الله بن محمد بن جعفر نا عبد الله بن محمد بن العباس نا سلمة بن شبيب نا سهل بن عاصم عن محمود الدمشقي قال جاء رجل إلى سفيان الثوري فشكا إليه مصيبة أصابته فقال له سفيان ما كان بها أحد أهون عليك مني قال وكيف ذاك قال ما وجدت أحدا تشكو إليه غيري قال إنما أردت أنا تدعو لي فقال له سفيان أمدبر أنت أم مدبر قال مدبر قال فارض بما يريدك / ذكر من اسمه محمية / ٧٢٦٤ -
