    ماجد بن العلايلي شاعر أديب قدم دمشق حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن المحسن بن أحمد السلمي من لفظه وكتبه لي بخطه قال ماجد بن العلايلي الشطرنجي رأيته بدمشق ولعبت معه بالشطرنج (١) وكانت (٢) طبقته في الشطرنج كطبقته في الذكاء والحفظ والأدب وأنشدني من شعر المشهى الدمشقي شيئا كثيرا وذكر لي من سرعة خاطره وبديهته ما يجل عن الوصف وأقام بدمشق دون شهر ثم سار إلى الجزيرة وكان أنشدني أبياتا عملها فراقصة من (٣) وتسمى الرشيقة لها قصة من شعرها شبهها تشبيها عجيبا وحديثه فيه طريقا مصيبا وهو خافت على المقلتين من رمد فعلقت في جبينها علقة ذكر من اسمه (٤)
