محمد بن علي أبو عبد الله الهاشمي الحاطب كان خطيب دمشق في أيام الإخشيدية ذكر عبد الوهاب بن جعفر فيما نقلته من خطه أنه مات فجأة يوم الجمعة لسبع وعشرين ليلة من شهر ربيع الأول سنة سبع وأربعين وثلاثمائة قال وكان شابا حسن الوجه كامل الخلق وشهد جنازته عالم من الناس ولم ير لأحد من كثرة الناس وجمعهم مثل ما رئي في جنازته وحضر جنازته الأمير أبو شجاع فاتك وصلى عليه ابنه أبو الحسين جعفر بن محمد بن علي وسنه يومئذ نحو الاثنين وعشرين سنة ودفن في مقابر باب الصغير ٦٨٣٥ -
