الحسين بن علي أبو علي المقرئ المعروف بالدمشقي سمع أبا الحسن بن أبي الحديد وبلغني أنه كان رافضيا وهو الذي سعى بأبي بكر الخطيب إلى أمير الجيوش وقال هو ناصبي يروي فضائل الصحابة وأخبار خلفاء بني العباس في الجامع فكان ذلك سبب إخراج الخطيب من دمشق وحكي عنه أنه كان لا يقرئ سورة الفاتحة لأحد ويزعم أنه قرأها على جبريل قرأت بخط أبي عبد الله محمد بن علي بن قبيس مات أبو علي الدمشقي في العشر الأخير من ذي العقدة يعني سنة إحدى وتسعين وأربعمائة١٥٨٣ -
