بشر بن مقاتل بن إسماعيل بن مقاتل أبو القاسم (٢) السمرقندي الحمصي ساكن طبرية (٣) قدم دمشق وحدث بها عن أبيه كتب عنه أبو الحسين الرازي قرأت بخط أبي الحسن نجا بن أحمد وذكر أنه نقله من خلط أبي الحسين الرازي في تسمية من كتب عنه بدمشق من الغرباء أبو القاسم بشر بن مقاتل العبدي وكان أصله من حمص وسكن طبرية (٣) ثم قدم دمشق وأقام بها مدة ثم خرج عنها ٩٠٤ -
