المفضل بن غسان، أبو عبد الرحمن الغلابي البصري الحافظ الأخباري. مصنف التاريخ. سمع ابن عيينة، ويحيى القطان، وابن علية، ومعاذ بن معاذ، ويزيد بن هارون، والواقدي، وخلقا من طبقتهم. ورحل، وعني بالحديث. روى عنه ابنه أبو أمية أحوص، ويعقوب بن شيبة، وابن أبي الدنيا، والزبير بن بكار، والبغوي، والسراج.وثقه الخطيب (¬١)، وتوفي سنة ست وأربعين. ٥٣٧ - خ:
