Al-Bukhari studied under famous Hadeeth Imam like Malik bin Anas and Yahya bin Ma'in. He died in Samarqand, the present day capital of Uzbekistan Nowadays, the capital is Tashkent. , the night of 'Eid-ul-Fitr, 256 H. Al-Bukhari was unique in the science of the methodology of Hadeeth and his book Al-Ja'mi 'As-Sahih is considered to be the most authentic book after the Qur'an. Saheeh al-Bukhari has been translated to English and is easily available.

    ٩٤ - محمد بن إسماعيل البخاري (ت ٢٥٦ هـ) محمد بن إسماعيل بن إبراهيم بن المغيرة بن بذدزبة، وقيل: بردزبة، وقيل: ابن الأحنف الجعفي مولاهم، أبو عبد اللَّه بن أبي الحسن البخاري الحافظ صاحب "الجامع الصحيح"، وغيره من التصانيف الكثيرة. أمير المؤمنين في الحديث، والمعول على كتابه بين أهل الإسلام، رحل في طلب الحديث إلى سائر محدثي الأمصار، وكتب بخراسان ومدن العراق كلها، وبالحجاز والشام ومصر. قال محمد بن أبي حاتم الوراق: قلت لأبي عبد اللَّه محمد بن إسماعيل البخاري: كيف كان بدأ أمرك في طلب الحديث؟ قال: ألهمت حفظ الحديث وأنا في الكُتَّاب. قلت: وكم أتى عليك إذ ذاك؟ فقال: عشر سنين أو أقل، ثم خرجت من الكُتَّاب بعد العشر، فجعلت أختلف إلى الداخلي وغيره، وقال يوما فيما كان يقرأ للناس: سفيان عن أبي الزبير عن إبراهيم. فقلت له: يا أبا فلان، إن أبا الزبير لم يرو عن إبراهيم. فانتهرني. فقلت له: ارجع إلى الأصل، إن كان عندك. فدخل ونظر فيه، ثم خرج، فقال لي: كيف هو يا غلام؟ فقلت: هوالزبير بن عدي عن إبراهيم. فأخذ القلم مني، وأحكم كتابه، وقال: صدقت. فقال له بعض أصحابه: ابن كم كنت إذ رددت عليه؟ فقال: ابن إحدى عشرة، فلما طعنت في ست عشرة سنة حفظت كتب ابن المبارك ووكيع، وعرفت كلام هؤلاء، ثم خرجت مع أمي وأخي أحمد إلى مكة، فلما حججت، رجع أخي، وتخلفت بها في طلب الحديث، فلما طعنت في ثماني عشرة جعلت أصنف فضائل الصحابة والتابعين وأقاويلهم، وذلك أيام عبيد اللَّه ابن موسى، وصنفت كتاب "التاريخ" إذ ذاك عند قبر الرسول ﷺ في الليالي المقمرة، وقلَّ اسم في "التاريخ" إلا وله عندي قصة، إلا أني كرهت تطويل الكتاب. قال الحسن بن الحسين البزار: رأيت محمد بن إسماعيل شيخا نحيف الجسم ليس بالطويل ولا بالقصير، ولد يوم الجمعة بعد صلاة الجمعة لثلاث عشرة ليلة خلت من شوال سنة أربع وتسعين ومائة، وتوفي ليلة السبت عند صلاة العشاء ليلة الفطر، ودفن يوم الفطر بعد صلاة الظهر يوم السبت غرة شوال سنة ست وخمسين ومائتين، عاش اثنتين وستين سنة إلا ثلاثة عشر يومًا (١).
