[ولايته على إفريقيّة (سنة ١٢٤)] وبينا هو إذ قدم عليه كتاب [٤٢٥ أ] هشام بأن يستخلف على مصر ويسير إلى إفريقيّة واليا عليها عوضا عن كلثوم وقد قتل. فاستخلف حفص بن الوليد وسار إلى إفريقيّة يوم الاثنين لسبع خلون من ربيع الآخر سنة أربع وعشرين ومائة، وكانت ولايته الثانية خمس سنين وثلاثة أشهر. فلمّا قدم إفريقيّة للنصف من جمادى الأولى كتب إليه أهل الأندلس وأهل الشام وغيرهم يسألونه أن يبعث إليهم واليا. فبعث أبا الخطّار حسام بن ضرار الكلبيّ، فدانوا له.
