محمّد بن عليّ بن عبد الرّحمن بن عليّ بن غازي البعليّ.قال في «الضّوء»: ويعرف ب «ابن الجوف» بجيم مفتوحة، ثمّ واو ساكنة، وآخره فاء. ولد سنة ٧٧٥، وسمع من عبد الرّحمن بن الزّغبوب «الصّحيح» بل كان يذكر أنّه سمعه أيضا على الشّمس ابن اليونانيّة، والعماد ابن بردس، وابن يعقوب، والأمين بن المحبّ، وحدّث، أخذ عنه النّجم ابن فهد وغيره. ومات قبل دخولي بعلبكّ.- انتهى-. قال ابن فهد: مات قبل السّتّين وسبعمائة. ٦٥٥ -
