محمد إسماعيل مرعي (٠٠٠ - ١٤١٣ هـ- ٠٠٠ - ١٩٩٣ م) باحث إسلامي، قانوني. عمل مدرّسا مساعدا في كلية الشريعة بجامعة الأزهر، وأوفد إلى فرنسا لنيل درجة الدكتوراه في القانون من جامعة «نانت» الفرنسية، واختار لرسالته موضوع «حق الإضراب في الشريعة الإسلامية والقانون المصري والفرنسي»، إلا أن المنية وافته قبل موعد المناقشة، فقام المشرف على الرسالة البروفيسور هدستيو بتقديم تقرير لوزير التعليم الفرنسي تحدث فيه عن جدية الرسالة وعمقها، واستنادا للتقرير قرر الوزير «جاك لانج» مناقشة الرسالة غيابيا، ومنح الباحث الدرجة (٣)!
