١١٢٢) محمد بن عبد الوهاب بن سلام الجبائي أبو علي:"رأس المعتزلة ومن انتهت إليه رياستهم، أخذ عن أبي يعقوب الشحام وغيره، وكان من رأيه تقديم أبي بكر وعمر وعثمان، والوقف على أبي بكر وعلي (١)، توفي سنة ثلاث وثلاثمائة وله ثمان وستون سنة، وذكر النديم له سبعين تصنيفا منها "الرد على الأشعري في الرؤية" وهو من العجائب لأن الأشعري كان من تلامذته، ثم خالفه وصنف في الرد عليه، فنقض هو بعض تصانيفه، وله الرد على أبي الحسين الخياط والصالحي والحافظ والنظام والبرذعي وغيرهم من المعتزلة فيما خالفهم فيه".
