[محمد بن عبد الرحمن] بن محمد بن محمود السمرقندى السنجارى كان شيخاً كبيراً وعالم متبحراً ولد بسمرقد سنة ٦٧٥ وبعد ما بلغ رتبة الكمال ساح في البلاد ثم أقام بماردين ودرس وصنف وأفتى إلى أن مات بها في رمضان سنة ٧٢١ وله كتاب عمدة الطالب لمعرفة المذاهب جع فيها المذاهب الأربعة ومذهب داود والشيعة. (قال الجامع) السنجارى نسبة إلى سنجار بكسر السين المهملة وسكون النون مدينة بالجزيرة سميت باسم بانيها سنجار بن مالك هو أخو آمد الذي بني آمد كذا قال السمعاني ولا أدرى وجه انتساب صاحب الترجمة هل هو إليها أم إلى غيرها.
