والمنسوب: أبو بكر محمد بن خلف بن المرزبان بن بسّام الآجرّي، المحوّلي. صنف التصانيف الكثيرة، الغالب عليها الحكايات والأشعار. من شيوخه: الزبير بن بكار، وأحمد بن منصور الزيادي، ومحمد بن أبي السري الأزدي، وابن أبي الدنيا، وغيرهم. من تلاميذه: الحافظ أبو أحمد بن عدي، وأبو عمرو بن حيّويه الخرّاز، وعيسى بن موسى المتوكل، وغيرهم، مات سنة (٣٠٩).
