والمنسوب: محمد بن عبد الله بن زياد بن عبّاد القطّان المتوثي، والد أبي سهل. من شيوخه: إبراهيم بن الحجاج، وعبد الله بن الجارود السّلمي، وغيرهما، روى عنه ابنه أبو سهل. وحليم بن يحيى المتّوثي، حدث عن الحسن بن علي بن راشد الواسطي. من تلاميذه: الطبراني، وأبو القاسم البغوي، ويحيى بن محمد بن صاعد، وأبو القاسم التنوخي وعبد الله بن محمد الصريفيني (٢).
