والمنسوب: أيوب بن الحسين بن محمد بن أحمد بن عوف بن حميد بن تميم الفرَجي، بفتح الراء. من أهل مدينة الفرَج، يكنى أبا سليمان، ويعرف بابن الطويل، رحل إلى المشرق. من شيوخه: ابن أبي الموت، وعبد الكريم بن أحمد بن شعيب الشيباني، وعبد الواحد بن أحمد بن عبد الله بن مسلمة بن قتيبة، وغيرهم. استقضاه الحكم المستنصر ببلده، وكان أديبا حكيما، قدم قرطبة. توفي سنة (٣٨٢) أو (٣٨٣) بوادي الحجارة (٢).
