والمنسوب: الحسن بن علي بن سعيد ابن عبد الله الشاتاني. يلقب علم الدين، كان أديبا شاعرا فاضلا، قدم على صلاح الدين يوسف بن أيوب فأكرم مثواه، ومدحه العلماء بمدائح جمّة، يبرز بالعلم، قدم بغداد وتفقه بها على مذهب الإمام الشافعي ﵁، تأدب على بن السجزي، وابن الجواليقي وقدم دمشق وعقد له مجلس وعظ في سنة (٥٣١). من شيوخه: القاضي أبو بكر محمد بن عبد الباقي الأنصاري، وأبو منصور عبد الرحمن بن محمد القزّاز، وأبو القاسم إسمعيل بن محمد السمرقندي، سمع منه الحديث، وغيرهم في الرسائل من الموصل إلى بغداد. قيل: إنّه تغير في آخر عمره بعد أن سُمع عليه، ولد سنة (٥١٣) وتوفي في شعبان سنة (٥٧٩) (٢).
