والمنسوب: أبو عبد الله محمد بن الجهم السّمّري. من شيوخه: يزيد بن هارون، ويعلى بن عبيد، وأكثر الرواية عن يحيى بن زياد الفرّاء، النحوي، الكوفي. وأبو عبد الله الحسين بن عبد الله السمّري. الكاتب من فضلاء الكتّاب وعلمائهم، وله كتاب جيّد في الجراح وأمثلة الكتّاب (١). (١٢٢٣) النسبة: السمرقندي، نسبة إلى سَمَرْقَنْد: بفتح أوّله وثانيه، ويقال لها بالعربيّة سمران: بلد معروف مشهور، قيل: إنّه من أبنية ذي القرنين بما وراء النهر، وهو قصبة (٢) الصّغد مبنيّة، نسب إلى سمرقند جماعة كثيرة.
