والمنسوب من المتقدّمين: حمّاد بن مالك بن بسطام بن درهم أبو مالك الأشجعي، الحرستاني. من شيوخه: الأوزاعي، وإسماعيل بن عبد الرحمن بن عبيد بن نفيع، وعبد الرحمن بن يزيد بن جابر، وسعيد بن بشير، وعبد العزيز بن حصين، وإسماعيل بن عيّاش. من تلاميذه: أبو حاتم الرازي، وأبو زرعة الدمشقي، ويزيد بن محمد بن عبد الصمد، وهشام بن عمار، ويعقوب بن سفيان، ومحمد بن عبد الصمد، ومحمد بن إسماعيل الترمذي. مات سنة (٢٢٨) (١). (٧٦٢) النسبة: الحرفي، نسبة إلى حُرْف: بالضم ثم السكون، والفاء، وهو في اللّغة حبّ الرشاد: رستاق (٢) من نواحي الأنبار.
