والمنسوب: أبو سعد عبد الرحمن بن محمد الجوكاني. واسمه مأمون بن عليّ المتولي الفقيه، من أبيورد، وتفقه ببخارى، وكان مؤيد الملك بن نظام الملك قد ردّ إليه التدريس بمدرسة بغداد، بعد أبي إسحاق الشيرازي، ولقّبه شرف الأئمة، وهو من أصحاب القاضي حسين المروزي، وتمم كتاب الإبانة الذي ألفه الفوراني في عشرة مجلدات، فصار أضعاف الإبانة في مجلدين. مات المتولي في شوال سنة (٤٧٨) وكان مولده سنة (٤٢٧) (٢).
