والمنسوب: أبو الحسن سورة بن شدّاد الجنوجردي، أدرك التابعين. من شيوخه: أبو يحيى زرني بن عبد الله المؤذن، صاحب أنس بن مالك، والثوري. من تلاميذه: عبد الرحمن بن الحكم، وغيره، وكان صحيح السماع. وأبو محمد عبدان بن محمد بن عيسى الجنوجردي. المروزي، اسمه عبد الله وعرف بعبدان، كان حافظا زاهدا أحد أئمة الدنيا، وهو الذي أظهر مذهب الشافعي بمرو بعد أحمد بن سيار، روى كتب الشافعي عن الربيع بن سليمان، وغيره من أصحاب الشافعي، وروى الحديث عن قتيبة بن سعيد، وسافر إلى مصر، والشام، والعراق. من تلاميذه: أبو العباس الدغولي، وغيره، وكان مولده ليلة عرفة سنة (٢٢٠) وتوفي سنة (٢٩٣٩ وصنف كتابا سماه الموطأ (٢).
