والمنسوب: أبو سعيد الهيثم بن كليب بن شريح ابن معقل الشاشي، البنكثي، أصله من ترمذ، وسكن بنكث فنسب إليها، كان إماما حافظا، رحّالا أديبا (٢). من شيوخه: أبو محمد عبد الله بن مسلم بن قتيبة قرأ عليه الأدب ببغداد، وعيسى بن أحمد العسقلاني، وأبو عيسى الإمام الترمذي، وغيرهما من أهل خراسان، والجبال، والعراق. من تلاميذه: أبو القاسم عليّ بن أحمد بن محمد الخزاعي. مات بالشاش سنة (٣٣٥) وله مسند في مجلدين ضخمين سمعه الإصطخري بمرو علي أبي المظفر عبد الرحيم بن أبي سعد الحافظ، ﵀ (٣).
