sahih· Al-Albani

Narrated 'Awf bin Malik:

When the spoils (fai') came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), he divided it that day ; he gave two portions to a married man and one to a bachelor. The narrator Ibn al-Musaffa added: We were summoned, and I would be summoned before 'Ammar. So I was summoned and he gave me two portions, for I had a family ; then 'Ammar b. Yasir was summoned after me and given one.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to consider the people's circumstances in giving, distinguishing between the married person who has a family and the unmarried person. In this Hadith, `Awf ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) received the Fay'", which are gains what is taken from the disbelievers without fighting, and it is said: the booty, he would distribute it on the same day; so that they could benefit from it. He would give "the one with a family," meaning the married person who has a wife, "two shares," meaning two portions or two shares, and he would give "the unmarried," meaning the one who does not have a wife, "one share," meaning one portion or one share. "Ibn Al-Musaffa added," meaning in his narration of the Hadith, and he is Muhammad ibn Al-Musaffa, one of the narrators of the Hadith: `Awf ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We were called," so that they could take from the Fay', "- and I used to be called before `Ammar -" and this indicates that it was customary when `Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) and `Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) were called that `Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) would be given precedence over `Ammar ibn Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him), "and given two shares"; because he was married, and thus in greater need than `Ammar, who was given one share..
