[١٠٠٨٨] قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جَمِيلِ بْنِ طَرِيفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، الثَّقَفِيُّ، أَبُو رَجَاءٍ (¬٧) (¬٨). سمع اللَّيثَ، ومالكًا، وحمَّادَ بنَ زَيْدٍ، وأبا عَوانةَ (¬٩). ماتَ في (¬١٠) شعبانَ سَنَةَ أَربعينَ ومائتينِ (¬١١).

Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) started the journey before noon, he used to delay the Zuhr prayer till the time for the `Asr prayer and then he would dismount and pray them together; and whenever the sun declined before he started the journey he used to offer the Zuhr prayer and then ride (for the journey).

"If the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was setting out on a journey before the sun passed its zenith, he would delay Zuhr until the time of 'Asr, then he would stop and combine the prayer. If the sun passed its zenith before he set out, he would pray Zuhr and then set off.
