قَدْ كَانَ يَكُونُ فِي الأُمَمِ مُحَدَّثُونَ فَإِنْ يَكُ فِي أُمَّتِي أَحَدٌ فَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ
. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .وَ أَخْبَرَنِي بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ مُحَدَّثُونَ يَعْنِي مُفَهَّمُونَ .
English translation
Narrated 'Aishah:
that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Among the nations, there used to be Muhaddathun (those who were given understanding), and if there were one in my nation, it would be 'Umar bin Al-Khattab."
