Riyad as-Salihin, 960
Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri and Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with them) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "When three persons set out on a journey, they should appoint one of them as their leader." <b>[Abu Dawud]</b>.
وعن أبي سعيد وأبي هريرة رضي الله عنهما قالا: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : “إذا خرج ثلاثة في سفر فليأمروا أحدهم" حديث حسن، ((رواه أبو داود بإسناد حسن)).

<b>Guidance from the Hadith:</b><br>
1) The wisdom behind appointing a leader in travel is that he tends to the traveling party’s interests lest they end up in a state of chaos.<br>
2) The leader of a traveling party should be obeyed with regard to the interests of the journey, but with regard to personal matters, it is not obligatory to obey him.<br>
3) The leader should consult his companions over matters related to their travel and not do it alone, in compliance with the verse that says: {And whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves.}
