Narrated Abu `Abs:

I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, "Anyone whose feet are covered with dust in Allah's cause, shall be saved by Allah from the Hell-Fire."

Allah (may He be glorified and exalted) has promised those who strive in jihad in His cause an immense reward, for He will forbid their feet that got dusty in Allah’s cause to the Fire, as is mentioned in this hadith. The feet are mentioned, even though the dust gets onto the entire body, because most of the mujahidin at that time were foot soldiers, and the feet get dusty in all circumstances, whether there is a great deal of dust or only a little. Moreover, the son of Adam stands on his feet, so if his feet are safe from the Fire, then the rest of his body will also be safe from it. This is a promise from the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his promise is true. Even though the phrase “the cause of Allah” usually refers to jihad, it may also refer to any act of worship. Therefore it includes the one who goes out to pray and seek knowledge, and so on. Based on that, there is the hope that everyone whose feet get dusty whilst he is going to do any act of worship or obedience will be forbidden to the Fire..
