حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَهَى أَنْ يَشْرَبَ الرَّجُلُ قَائِمًا ‏.‏

English translation

Narrated Anas ibn Malik:

The Prophet (ﷺ) forbade that a man should drink while standing.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ مِسْعَرِ بْنِ كِدَامٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ، عَنِ النَّزَّالِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا، دَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَشَرِبَهُ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ رِجَالاً يَكْرَهُ أَحَدُهُمْ أَنْ يَفْعَلَ هَذَا وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَفْعَلُ مِثْلَ مَا رَأَيْتُمُونِي أَفْعَلُهُ ‏.‏

English translation

Nazzal b. Samurah said :

‘Ali asked for water and he drank it while standing. He then said: some people disapprove of doing this (drinking while standing ), but I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) doing as I have done.
