  • محمد بن كثير العبدي، أبو عبد الله البصري. روى عن: أخيه سليمان وكان أكبر منه بخمسين سنة، وعن الثوري، وشعبة، وإبراهيم بن نافع المكي، وهمام، وإسرائيل، وجعفر بن سليمان الضبعي، وغيرهم. روى عنه: البخاري، وأبو داود، وروى له الباقون بواسطة: الدارمي، وعبد بن حميد، والذهلي، والحسين بن محمد البلخي، ومحمد بن معمر البحراني، وأحمد بن محمد بن المعلى الأدمي، وأبو حاتم، وأبو زرعة، وعلي ابن المديني، ويعقوب بن شيبة، وأبو مسلم الكجي، ومعاذ بن المثنى، ويوسف بن يعقوب القاضي، وغيرهم. قال ابن معين: لم يكن بثقة. وقال أبو حاتم: صدوق. وذكره ابن حبان في الثقات، وقال: حدثنا عنه الفضل بن الحباب، مات سنة ثلاث وعشرين ومائتين، وكان له يوم مات تسعون سنة، وكان تقيا فاضلا. وكذا أرخه البخاري، وأبو داود، وابن أبي عاصم، وابن قانع، وزاد: في جمادى الأولى، وقال: إنه ضعيف. قلت: وقال أحمد بن حنبل: ثقة، لقد مات على سنة. وقال مسلمة بن قاسم: لا بأس به. وقال ابن الجنيد، عن ابن معين: كان في حديثه ألفاظ، كأنه ضعفه، ثم سألت عنه، فقال: لم يكن لسائل أن يكتب عنه. وفي الزهرة: روى عنه (خ) ثلاثة وستين حديثا. • تمييز -
