It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded us to check the eyes and ears [when selecting an animal for sacrifice]

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ حُجَيَّةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نَسْتَشْرِفَ الْعَيْنَ وَالْأُذُنَ‏.‏
