It was narrated that Abut Tufail said: I said to Ibn 'Abbas:

Your people are saying that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) trotted (raml) around the House and that it is Sunnah. He said: They are telling the truth and they are lying. I said: How can they be telling the truth and lying? He said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) trotted around the House but it is not Sunnah. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his Companions came [to Makkah] when the mushrikeen were on Mount Qu'aiqi'an and he heard that they were saying that they [the Muslims] were emaciated, so he told them to trot in order to show them [the mushrikeen] that they had strength.
