It was narrated that Ibn "Abbas said:

It was said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ),when he had finished with Badr: You should go after the caravan [of Quraish]; there is nothing to prevent you getting it. Then al"Abbas bin ‘Abdul-Muttalib called out to him, saying: You cannot have it. He said: "Why not?" He said: Allah only promised you one of the two parties (cf. al-Anfal 8:7), and He has given you what He promised you.
