It was narrated from "Abdullah bin al-Harith bin Nawfal, that "Abbas bin ‘Abdul-Muttalib said:

I said: O Messenger of Allah, have you benefited your uncle Abu Talib in any way? For he used to protect you and stand up for you. He said: "Yes; he is in the shallowest part of Hell; were it not for me he would be in the lowest depth of Hell.”
