Ibn 'Umar said (may Allah be well pleased with him and his father):

“Hafsa said: 'Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) used to perform two cycles of ritual prayer when the dawn was rising, and the caller [to prayer] was calling'. And Ayyub said, “I think he described the two prayer cycles as abbreviated.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَتْنِي حَفْصَةُ‏:‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، كَانَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ حِينَ يَطْلُعُ الْفَجْرُ وَيُنَادِي الْمُنَادِي، قَالَ أَيُّوبُ‏:‏ وَأُرَاهُ، قَالَ‏:‏ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ‏.‏
