Riyad as-Salihin, 1658
Ibn Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "He who (on befalling a calamity) slaps his cheeks, tears his clothes and follows the ways and traditions of the Days of Ignorance is none of us." <b>[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]</b>.
وعن ابن مسعود رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم :
ليس منا من ضرب الخدود، وشق الجيوب، ودعا بدعوى الجاهليه
((متفق عليه)).

<b>Guidance from the Hadith:</b><br>
1) It is prohibited to act like people in the pre-Islamic period of ignorance in terms of wailing and the like. These are not Islamic manners.<br>
2) It points out the merit of patience in pursuit of divine reward at the time of afflictions and the display of contentment with the decree and predestination of Allah Almighty.
