Riyad as-Salihin, 1636

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: "Jews and Christians do not dye their hair, so act differently from them." <b>[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]</b>.

وعن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال‏:‏ ‏

‏إن اليهود والنصارى لا يصبغون، فخالفوهم‏

‏ ‏(‏‏(‏متفق عليه‏)‏‏)‏ ‏.‏ المُرَادُ: خِضَابُ شَعْرِ اللِّحْيةِ والرَّأسِ الأبْيضِ بِصُفْرةٍ أوْ حُمْرةٍ، وأمَّا السَّوادُ، فَمنْهيُّ عَنْهُ كَما سَنَذْكُرُ في الْباب بعْدَهُ، إنْ شَاءَ اللَّه تَعَالَى.

<b>Guidance from the Hadith:</b><br> 1) It is obligatory to act contrary to the People of the Book regarding their habits, statements, and actions that are peculiar to them, since the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” [Narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dāwūd]<br> 2) It is recommended to dye white hair in a color other than black.
