Riyad as-Salihin, 1345

Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

A man sought permission from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to travel in the land. He (ﷺ) said to him, "Travel for my people is Jihad in the Cause of Allah, glory be to Him." <b>[Abu Dawud]</b>.

وعن أبي أمامة، رضي الله عنه أن رجلا قال‏:‏ يا رسول الله ائذن لي في السياحة‏.‏ فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏:‏ ‏

‏إن سياحة أمتي الجهاد في سبيل الله، عز وجل‏

‏ ‏(‏‏(‏رواه أبو داود بإسناد جيد‏)‏‏)‏‏.‏

<b>Guidance from the Hadith:</b><br> 1) If Muslims travel in the land, they should do so in defense of this religion and its sanctuary and to make it dominant over all else.<br> 2) Islam corrects wrong concepts in people’s lives and prompts them to develop the best habits and manners. Traveling aimlessly in the land is an act of dispraised diversion and play.
