Riyad as-Salihin, 1083
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "If people came to know the blessing of calling Adhan and the standing in the first row, they could do nothing but would draw lots to secure these privileges." <b>[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]</b>.
وعن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال:
لو يعلم الناس ما في النداء والصف الأول، ثم لم يجدوا إلا أن يستهموا عليه لاستهموا
((متفق عليه)) .

<b>Guidance from the Hadith:</b><br>
1) It is legitimate to draw lots concerning acts of worship and piety when there are a lot of competitors over them, like, for example, drawing lots to decide who stands in the first row in congregational prayer.<br>
2) Ignorance is the reason why many people do not care about vying over good and righteous acts.
