Riyad as-Salihin, 489
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The most truthful statement a poet has ever made is the saying of Labid: Everything besides Allah is vain." <b>[Al- Bukhari and Muslim]</b>.
وعن أبي هريرة، رضي الله عنه، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال:
أصدق كلمة قالها شاعر كلمة لبيد: ألا كل شئ ما خلا الله باطل
. ((متفق عليه)).

<b>Guidance from the Hadith:</b><br>
1) The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) would cite good poetry, occasionally citing half a verse.<br>
2) Apart from Allah Almighty, everything is vain and useless. So, anything done for Allah’s sake will remain and endure; otherwise, it is doomed to failure.<br>
3) The truth should be accepted from the one who says it, regardless of who he is.<br>

<b>Words in the Hadith:</b><br>
Labid ibn Rabi‘ah was one of the greatest Arab poets before Islam. He was alive at the time of Islam and he came to the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) and embraced Islam, after which he abandoned poetry.
