Riyad as-Salihin, 430
Ibn 'Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported:
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Any Muslim dies and forty men who do not associate anything with Allah (in worship), perform his funeral prayer, Allah makes them intercede for him". <b>[Muslim]</b>
وعن ابن عباس، رضي الله عنهما، قال: سمعت رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، يقول:
ما من رجل مسلم يموت فيقوم على جنازته أربعون رجلاً لا يشركون بالله شيئاً إلا شفعهم الله فيه
. ((رواه مسلم)).

<b>Guidance from the Hadith:</b><br>
1) It establishes intercession by the believers, if the deceased is entitled to that. Their intercession for him is that Allah Almighty forgives his sins.<br>
2) It encourages increasing the number of participants in the funeral prayer in hope that the deceased would be forgiven, out of Allah’s grace.<br>
3) It shows the merit of Tawhid and its people and the disavowal of polytheism and its people.
